Chas Hendricksen is the owner of GH Lawn Care, a landscaping company located in Central Virginia. He is pictured above with a recently completed project. His team has decades of combined experience to address just about any lawn / landscape question or dilemma you may encounter.

Below is our first installment of questions answered by our Professional Landscaper:

Landscaping Questions

Q: What kinds of things should homeowners be doing now to prepare for Spring? I realize that in much of the U.S. (at least), we are still dealing with a lot of snow.

A: Now is a great time to assess any damage from the snow. As soon as the ground thaws a little it will be time for a crab grass pre-emergent with fertilizer to be applied to the lawn. Also an early coat of mulch and a pre-emergent for landscaped beds will cut down on weeds tremendously. Any trimming that was neglected last fall may need to be done as early as possible.

Spring Yard Cleanup

Q: What are 2 or 3 of your favorite lawn care tips?

A: Favorite Tips:

1. Bagging grass clippings is robbing your lawn of free fertilizer! (tip - don't bother bagging!)
2. Landscaping Pros are worth every penny!

Q: When might a person want to consider hiring a professional landscaper?

A: When to hire a pro:

Any time the job requires a design to be created it is time to call us. And don't automatically assume it will be too expensive. Our customers' annual incomes range from $20,000 to millions annually. Our rates remain the same for all our customers.

(part B) - Aren't the pros way too expensive for the average homeowner to afford?

A: Even on the simplest jobs, our material costs are so much lower that it often offsets the labor costs! So to really answer the question, just call us (or your local landscape company if out of the area) for a quote on any landscaping or lawn care that you, as a home owner, may need.
