Black Walnut Trees

by debbie
(oklahoma)

We have numerous black walnut trees in our yard. they produce wonderful shade for our home and yard but we hate the nuts. the squirrels are the only thing that can eat them and they make such a mess. is there any type of chemical you can put on these tree that will stop them from producing the nuts?

I would hesitate to recommend any chemical spray as it may affect your animal population as well as your family. The trees will stop producing if you cut them down, of course, but otherwise, they are just producing as they were intended to.

Some people LOVE black walnuts, and many herbalists use the outer shell for a parasite remedy. Perhaps you would try advertising that you have black walnuts for sale during that time of year, and people can pick them and pay you!
