Fall Flowers For Wedding:
What To Consider

Using fall flowers for wedding bouquets and centerpieces is appropriate for weddings that take place in September, October and November.

Assuming you are responsible for this part of the planning, there are several things to consider before you start shopping for flowers.

Fall Wedding Flower Colors

Brides typically have a say in what colors will be predominant in the wedding party’s clothing. So it’s a good idea to consult with the bride about her preferences before you start planning. After all, it is her day.

You should keep in mind her clothing color choices when doing the floral planning. You want to make sure that none of the colors in the arrangements clash with the clothing colors. If she is wearing white, look at the colors of the bridesmaid dresses.

Bright flaming orange is a color you might want to avoid when designing the bouquets. Bright yellow on the other hand is usually a perfect choice unless the bridesmaids are wearing yellow. The flowers will disappear against the background of the dresses.

A little contrast is a good thing.

Fall Flower Species

The species is an important consideration for bouquets. The fragrances of some autumn plants are very strong.

For example, mums are often used in fall flower arrangements but are not great choices for bouquets because of their strong fragrance. If it is strong enough to repel insects, which it is, it is strong enough to make a bridesmaid sneeze.

You should also consult with all members of the party to find out about any allergies. To be on the safe side, you can use a backing of paper on each bouquet to protect the bride’s and the bridesmaid’s hands.

Cost of Fall Wedding Flower Arrangements

Cost is a factor when planning any aspect of a wedding. The bride has a budget. In order to stay within that budget, it may be necessary to make some adjustments in the fall flower arrangements.

For example, she might have her heart set on purple Calla Lilies. Calla Lilies are quite expensive. You can adjust for the extra cost by using only one Calla Lily in each bouquet and leaving them out of the other floral arrangements except for the one at the bride’s table.

Mums, asters and goldenrod are inexpensive decorating choices. You can use them to stay on budget and still create a beautiful background for the bride’s special day.

Simply using fall flowers for wedding arrangements can help you stay within the bride’s budget. Flowers that are in season always cost less than those that must be grown in a greenhouse.

Enjoy your autumn wedding planning!
