Landscaping Question:
Athletic Field Top Dresser?

My task is to determine if I should buy a topdresser for athletic fields or rent one. My employer has seven fields and I would like to topdress with sand to make playing surface more level and help with drainage. I live in Northeastern Connecticut.

This is a great idea for leveling the fields and to help with drainage. The main question is will the top dresser be used year after year? If this is a one time job, I would suggest renting the machine. The cost of a week rental is considerably less than buying the machine!

The availability of renting the top dresser is an issue as well. Not all rental stores have the right type of top dresser for your specific application.

Another idea is to spread the material with a tractor and then drag the field with a chain drag. This may accomplish the same goal,but it will take a bit longer.
So it boils down to rental availability and cost of purchase!
