Landscaping Question:
Dead Spots in Lawn

by Mark
(CANADA)

I have numerous "dead spots" in my lawn, Did I put too much turfbuilder in certain areas? If so why so many brown-spots? I live in TORONTO,CANADA.

Our Expert Landscaper replies:

The brown spots could have several causes. If the turf builder was applied too heavy, there would be stripes instead of spots. Some times dogs that use the same spots repeatedly can cause these spots. It could also be a fungus of some sort. If these spots go away in a few dry weeks, it was probably a fungus. Reseeding these areas in the fall is the best solution.
