Landscaping small yards doesn't have to be complex to be interesting. First, think of what would most appeal to you. You look at your yard more than anyone else does, so go with what will bring you delight and satisfaction. You have probably heard of focal points, which is one particular focus of interest around which other items of beauty may be placed.
For instance, my friend chose two trees as focal points in her small backyard. She dug a circle around each tree (they stand about 10 yards apart from each other and are evenly spaced) and planted lovely colorful flowers at the base. She also hung a large hanging basket on each tree at eye level. It created a magnetic appeal.
Start with one focal point in designing your small yard landscaping. What would make you happy when you look at your yard? What would bring peace to your surroundings? You can start with one, and then create multiple focal points in the future as you become more comfortable with the process. What appeals to you as a starting focal point?

* Garden (herb or flower)
* Stepping Stone Path
* Porch or Yard Swing
* Memorial Sitting Area

* Arbor
* Solar Landscaping Lights
