Tree Types: Popular Types of Trees for Landscaping
Popular tree types add shade, beauty and interest to a landscape design, and may well increase not only the comfort of your family, but the value of your home as well.
There are three main types of trees that you might want to consider for your landscape. They are shade trees, ornamental type trees, and evergreens. What you decide will depend on the landscape design of your choice as well as your available space

Shade Trees
Shade trees are practical and beautiful within most landscape designs. Because of the structure of the tree, the leafy canopy provides the respite of shade from the sunny parts of your backyard haven. Because the canopy is also quite wide (once trees mature), they provide a great place for ground plants that love diffused natural lighting. An elm tree is ideal for an estate setting. The elm can grow unobstructed provided it has plenty of space to grow freely.
Ornamental Trees
Ornamental tree types tend to be smaller in size than most other trees. But to make up for height, the features of an ornamental tree can sport foliage that is quite extraordinary. Features such as branches, leaf color and design, flowers and possibly even berries or other fruit can be quite vivid and eye-catching. A great place for ornamentals in near the corners on a particular piece of land. One example is the beautiful flowering dogwood tree. Gorgeous pink or white blossoms pop to life in the spring. The branches are wide, giving it a voluminous effect. An extra bonus is that cheerful red berries appear during the fall as the dogwood’s crowning glory begins to dissipate.
Evergreen trees
Evergreen trees are popular for many reasons – and are especially effective as a privacy screen since the tree stays green all year through. The added greenery can be a sight for sore eyes during the long winter months. You’ll want to keep in mind, though, that these trees can grow very tall once they reach maturity.
When designing your backyard landscape area, it’s always wise to plan for projected growth of your plants before you put them in the ground. Doing this will allow you to plan for the tree types amount of shade, and to imagine how much space the tree will occupy once full grown. In addition, there are numerous plants that may benefit in the future form the type of shade these lovely trees provide.
