Yard Drainage Problems

(Autumn)

Hi!
We have a surface water problem with our property and are seeking economical, and aesthetically pleasing solutions. The property slopes down to our neighbors garage and driveway. there is alot (!!!) of water coming from the neighbor above as well as an underground stream. The soil structure is 2-3 feet of permeable soil above clay hardpan. Have looked into french drains and such which sound feasible but the ultimate issue is where to redirect the excess flow. My question is: can we set up a catchment or pond that is surrounded by water hungry plants such as gunera, willow, bullrush etc in order to consume the excess!Would this pond need to be lined? contain a pump system???
I am writing from the west coast of British Columbia where winters are extremely rainy and wet. Zone 7 plantwise. Any recommendations deeply appreciated.
Many Thanks
Autumn E

Hi, Autumn - I sincerely wish I could help, but this sounds like a question for a local landscaper. I would recommend that you ask several for a free estimate and then see what they recommend. At least then, you'll have more of an idea of what your options are, and you can make a decision from there. This is a problem better suited for someone who is more familiar with your climate and can actually assess the issue onsite. I truly hope you find the answers you seek!
